Tricks and tips for getting the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • To get the largest rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Sand Dune by AvantStay
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
