How to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and pick the right Charleston area rental:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Rutledge Avenue Inn (Suite C) by StayDuvet! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
