Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Finding the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Charleston area rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Palm Key - A Cozy Coastal Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your contract.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
