Getting the best rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the most suitable rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and choosing yourrental home:

  • First, have your family select date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Newly Renovated & Modern! Wonderful Ocean Views and 1 Block to the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
