How to find the best rental home experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront w/ Pool + Beach Access & Balcony View
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. text the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
