How to get the best Charleston area rental experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Cute & Cozy 3 Bedroom Family Beach Home w\/everything you need! Only 2 blocks to Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area beach you are crazy about, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
