Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To get the best rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and pick yourrental:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Southard Cottage: Your Walkable Haven has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
