Our top Charleston area vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick the right Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. ?Home Too? in downtown Charleston, by MUSC has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
