Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Peaceful with most spectacular marsh views near the beach & Downtown Charleston. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area destination you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
