Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. ?Free Parking? - Walk to Downtown & MUSC has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
