Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Getting the best value:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. To find the best vacation home within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Downtown Charleston Just 1 Block to King St has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
