Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing a perfectrental home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Cozy Coastal Townhome with seasonal pool centrally located in Charleston has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
