Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Finding the perfect vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Casa Zoë
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
