Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect rental:
- First, have your family select a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. CLASSIC and Cozy IOP Beach Home, Family-Friendly, Walk to Marina! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is optimal for your group.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
