Our top Isle of Palms vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the rightrental home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. CLASSIC and Cozy IOP Beach Home, Family-Friendly, Walk to Marina! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your group.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
