Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Beautifully Modern Renovated Lower Unit Condo has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Tips to have a great stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
