Tricks and tips to get the optimal Charleston area vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Choosing and booking your prefectvacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful downtown condo with a full kitchen, central AC, & rooftop deck has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, contact the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
