Rental home booking tips:

Sticking to your budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly riverfront home with fireplace, balcony, dock, & washer\/dryer has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
