Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Book your rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. - Indigo's cabin - has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
