Tricks and tips for getting the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. PRIME Resort Location! Beachside, Ocean View, Pool Access! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Tips to have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
