Tricks and tips for getting the best rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to select the perfect vacation home:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. The Ashley Veranda King Suite includes Breakfast has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, contact the property owner before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
