Our top Charleston vacation rental booking tips:

When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Finding the best vacation rental:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Study at The Lodge Alley Inn has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
