Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking the perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- First, have your group agree to dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront Condo in Wild Dunes! Community Pool! Great View Looking at Ocean! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
