Strategies to get the best Charleston area rental experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Modern Ocean Front Condo!! Community Pool & Pier! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
