Vacation rental home tips:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To book the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Adorable Beach Home on Quiet Street \/ Short 1 Block Walk to Beach \/ Screen Porch! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
