Getting the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
- Walk to Beach, Deck, Fireplace, Outdoor Dining has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
