Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Charleston area vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. The Sojourner
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
