Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • To book the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the perfect vacation rental in Charleston:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Sojourner
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
