Our top Vacation rental tips:

When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to pick the best rental:

  • Choose your dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. The Lodge Alley Inn, 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
