Tips to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Pavilion a la Plage on Isle of Palms ~ PORCH, GAS GRILL, STEPS FROM THE BEACH! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your family.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges applied to your agreement.
More tips for your visit:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Call the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
