Tips to get the best Charleston area rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and pick the rightvacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. New Listing! Marsh Views, Pool, and Tennis Courts - 22 Linkside Villa has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
