Tips to get the very best rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Modern Studio Apartment in Historic Building on Broad Street has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area destination you crave, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
