Finding the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental:
- First, have your family select vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. ????'Dolphin Manor' ~ OCEAN FRONT, PRIVATE POOL, HOT TUB, PUTTING GREEN ??! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
