Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectrental home:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Cute & Cozy Cottage Inside Wild Dunes Resort, Short Walk to the Beach! Perfect for a Relaxing Stay! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. message the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
