Finding the best Charleston rental experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Charleston Carriage Home - King Street - Parking! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
