Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Charleston area rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Charleston Carriage Home - King Street - Parking! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you simply love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
