Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking the bestvacation home:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Sullivans Retreat Amazing Views on Conch Creek, Pet Friendly 30 Night Min. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your contract.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
