Tips to get the optimal Charleston area rental experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Charleston area rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sawyer & Jessamine by AvantStay
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. text the rental manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
