Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your search:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. King Street Home - Walk Everywhere! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your group.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. message the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
