Getting the best rental home experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Centrally located condo, Renovated, Pool & Pier access, Close to beach - 204A Oceanside has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
