Charleston rental home tips:

When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beautiful home with full kitchen near restaurants, museums, art galleries has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
