faqs: HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO OPERATE A RYDABLE ON YOUR OWN?

ONLY CHILDREN 12 years old and older can ride on a Rydables by themselves (which means you purchase an ADULT TICKET - 12 & UP for them). IF your 12 year old has a small frame or is significantly smaller than most of their peers, we recommend that they ride with an adult (CHILD RIDER - child rides on a Rydable WITH THEIR ADULT).

CAN MY CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 12 OPERATE THE RYDABLE WHILE RIDING WITH THEIR ADULT?

While it might be VERY tempting to allow your child rider to steer or operate the Rydable while we are out and about, ONLY THE ADULT RIDER MAY OPERATE THE RYDABLE.

WHAT AGES CAN RIDE ON A RYDABLES?

Ages 2-11 can ride on a Rydables while seated directly in FRONT of their parent/adult. Your child MUST BE ABLE TO REMAIN FULLY SEATED AT ALL TIMES FOR THE ENTIRE TOUR. (Sorry, no infants under age 2 and no infants in body wraps/carriers.)**

Children 12 & older all the way up to senior citizens can ride a Rydable on their own. If you have questions about the compatibility and capability of your senior citizen rider, please send an email to our main office at info@charlottenctours.com

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ADULT RIDERS TO ACCOMPANY THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN IN MY FAMILY?

This is a question we are often asked. We understand and SO want to we somehow accommodate this situation under certain circumstances. PLEASE send an email to our main office at info@charlottenctours.com to ask us about the option of having up to two (smaller) children riding with one adult.

HOW FAST DOES A RYDABLE GO?

A Rydable can go up to 8 mph. HOWEVER the tour route does not operate at full speed. With stops and turns and movement along sidewalks, our tour doesn't allow for guests to go at that speed for much of their tour.

WHERE DO YOU SUGGEST WE PARK?

There is a reasonably priced public parking deck (at 210 N. Laurens St. Greenville, SC 29601) on the back side of our office/residential complex. Another less expensive option is a surface lot across N. Laurens St. from that same parking deck. There are also nearby in lots and decks that are 2-3 blocks away.

CAN WE EAT OR DRINK WHILE ON YOUR TOUR?

Please, NO eating or drinking anything other than plain water while on our Rydables. You are welcome to bring your own water or water bottle on the tour. We also provide bottled water for you.

CAN TWO ADULTS (OR A TEEN and a CHILD) ride a Rydables together?

Under certain circumstances, a small framed younger teen can ride with an adult (18 and older), but aside from that, all adults must ride on their own Rydable. Please contact us at:
info@charlottenctours.com to discuss this option.

IS THERE A RESTROOM WE CAN USE BEFORE THE TOUR?
Yes, we have a restroom for our customers at our office.

DO CHILDREN OR ADULTS NEED TO BE TALL ENOUGH TO REACH PEDALS TO OPERATE THEIR RYDABLE?

Rydables are operated by using only your two hands to steer and to pull back on levers to make the Rydabale go forward and backward.

SHOES AND SHIRTS ARE REQUIRED for all participants for the full duration of all tours.

ALSO, PLEASE NOTE that if a child or adult is unable to follow safe practices, company policies and guide directives, the tour will end and participants of that party will not receive full (or partial) refunds.

MORE INFO:

Are Rydables safe?
First and foremost, RYDABLES are SAFE!! In fact, they classify as an ADA-compliant mobility scooter. (Fun Fact: And as such, they pass all TSA inspections and are protected under Federal regulations. They even fly on airline flights for free!)

Safety Features:
All carts feature electromagnetic braking that automatically engages when the handle/throttle is released (squeeze to go, let go to stop…simple).

All carts have an anti-roll, hill-lock feature to prevent unwanted rolling when stopped on an incline or decline.

All carts are 2-wheel drive with suspension incorporated at all 4 wheels.

Their top speed can be both manually and/or electronically governed, based on the rider and/or the venue.

Rydables incorporates GPS tracking and includes geofencing capabilities allowing us to track and predetermine where they can and can’t travel.

Are there age limitations?
They’re simple enough to operate that we have riders as young as 12 years old that can handle Rydables on their own.

Are they just for kids?
No, Rydables are not just for kids! Rydables are a very unique product in that they truly have universal appeal and are designed for adult riders. While they are great for kids, way more than half of our customers are over 18! We are available to do events that are for both kids and adults 21 and older, a big hit for all ages and the kid in all of us.

What's the weight limit?
Rydables can hold up to 375 lbs, and are ADA compliant.

How fast do they go?
They can travel up to 4.25 mph or 7.5 mph (depending on which mode) which is pretty fast when you’re riding a penguin down the sidewalk! Their top speeds can be both manually and/or electronically governed, based on the needs of the rider and/or the venue.

Can I bring snacks or coffee with me on the tour?
No. PLEASE, only bottled water/water bottles on the Rydables.

On which terrain/s can they operate?
Rydables are multi-terrain capable and are specifically designed for outdoor use. As long as the area they’re operating in isn’t too thick/deep, Rydables can be used on grass, gravel, dirt, hills, etc… (They’re not “all-terrain” but they are definitely “multi-terrain”!). Rydables can easily and safely operate indoors, as well. We conduct our tour almost exclusively on the city sidewalks, but we do cross major city streets at busy intersections at the pedestrian crosswalks.

**Can my infant ride with me?"
Because riders have to remain fully seated and facing forwards for the entire tour, we only offer this tour for children who are at least 2 years old.

FAQ

Can I just show up or do I need to make purchase tickets in advance?
Yes, walk-ups are welcome. However, we highly recommend booking in advance to guarantee the date and time that you prefer.

What if I’m late for my tour?
We want all of our tours to run smoothly, so it is important that we start on time so that the next tour does not have to wait. Late arrivals risk losing their time slot.

How soon should I purchase my tickets?
If you would like to reserve a weekend tour time, we recommend that you call as soon as possible. Overall, we have a great deal of flexibility. Give us a call and check our availability online at book at zerve .

What days and times do you do Segway tours?
We offer Segway tours year round, 7 days a week. Tours typically begin at 9am, 11am,1pm, 3pm, and 6pm.

Are there any age restrictions?
All participants must be at least 100 pounds, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old.

For those concerned about being older and riding a Segway, many of our tour participants are 55+ – we’ve even had folks in their 70’s and 80’s ride and have a blast!

Are there any weight restrictions for the Segway tours?
Participants need to be at least 100 lbs. and not more than 260 pounds. This is so that the computer in the base of the Segway can read and respond to your body movements.

Are there any other physical restrictions? What if I am pregnant?
We do ask that all participants be able to stand for long periods, walk a substantial distance unaided, and be able to go up and down stairs unaided. Charlotte NC Tours, Greenville Glides, and New Bern Segway Tours are NOT able to accommodate riders who have neurological impairments or other medical conditions that would limit their ability to ride safely and respond quickly to conditions that may arise while they are on their Segway.

In addition, if you are pregnant we ask that you tell us. We do not allow pregnant women or people with fainting or seizure disorders to ride the Segways.

How hard is it to learn to ride a Segway?
Riding a Segway really is as easy (and fun!) as it looks! Most people are comfortable maneuvering the Segway on their own within in 5-10 minutes of the one-on-one training before tours depart.

One of our trained guides will instruct you one-on-one and stay with you until you feel confident and ready to go. For your safety and the safety of others, we ask that you listen CAREFULLY and follow ALL instructions from your guide. They know the routes well and will lead you safely through your tour.

Will I be safe? Do we ride on the streets? Will the guide be with us the whole time?
All of our Segway tours are led by a guide for the duration of the tour. Most of the tour routes are along the sidewalks and paths. Your tour guide will safely lead you and advise your group of any obstacles to look out for along the way.

How fast do the Segways go? Will I get to go at my own speed?
Segways can go up to 12 MPH -” which is rather fast when moving among pedestrians. On your tour, however, you will not be going that fast in order to ensure the safety of the riders and pedestrians.

Not to be a buzz-kill, but if your guide sees anyone speeding, being reckless, or unsafe on the Segways, he/she may have to put your Segway in SAFETY MODE for the duration of the tour.

How long do the tours last? What kinds of tours do you do? What will I see?
We have a thorough description of each tour offered on the “Tours” tab. If you have any further questions, give us a call. We want you to enjoy your tour so if you have specific requests, just let us know!

Will I get tired on a tour? Should I eat before I come?
Everyone is different, but riding a Segway does take some physical effort. You will need the energy to stand and maneuver the Segway for the duration of the tour. Be sure to wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes.

Is Greenville Glides Tours the best way to tour?
Greenville Glides is the real deal. We are a REAL licensed, insured, & registered LLC with offices in Center City Charlotte, New Bern, and Greenville. Our guides are trained professionals that have led hundreds of tours. Charlotte NC Tours is a member of Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

Do I have to sign anything? Do I have to wear a helmet?
We require that all tour participants sign a liability waiver and a “declaration of fitness” statement before beginning their training. We require that you wear a helmet and stay with your group for the duration of the entire tour.

Are there any recommendations for clothing or shoes?
We recommend closed-toe, flat shoes. This will not only keep you safe but also comfortable!
On spring and fall days, we recommend that you dress in layers just to be prepared for any temperature swings. We also ask that you remove all caps during the tour so that your helmet is situated correctly on your head -” but, sunglasses are always a good idea.

What if I had a little too much to drink before my Segway tour?
Riders who are under the influence of any illegal substance or alcohol are not allowed to operate a Segway. If we feel that a rider’s judgment is impaired, our guides reserve the right to cancel your party’s reservation upon arrival or end the tour at any point. In these instances, no refunds will be given to any person in the party.

What happens if it rains (or looks like rain) the day of my tour?
If there is a need to reschedule or cancel your tour due to rain or other inclement weather, we will contact you.

What if it rains?
Most Segway tours would ask that you go out in the rain, but we prefer to stay dry as well.

Do you still do tours if it’s really cold/hot outside?
Yes, we do tours in hot and cold weather -” that’s just the nature of the south. When it’s cooler, layer up and consider a wind-resistant jacket since the movement on a Segway creates a slight wind chill factor.

On warmer days, we try to use shady routes as much as possible and provide participants with cold bottled water. You will want to dress appropriately for the heat, but please remember that for safety, we still advise only flat, closed-toed shoes be worn.

Is it really all that fun to ride a Segway?
YES! YES! YES! You will have fun and the guide may even have to pry the Segway out of your hands at the end of the tour. Should that be the case, please remember that you can always do another tour and bring along more friends to let them in on the fun!

Do you have gift certificates available for tours?
Of course! Gift certificates are available for any of our tour offerings. They make wonderful and unique gifts and thoughtful surprises for the special ones in your life! Credit card payment is accepted over the phone and we can send the gift certificates wherever you would like.

When should I tip my guide?
At the end of your tour, each participant may tip your guide. Our guides really enjoy meeting new people and showing them around the same as they would their own visiting family. If you enjoyed your experience, please be sure to let your guide know!

How many people are in a group?
We can handle groups of any size! Large groups do require extra preparation, so please contact us as soon as possible if your group will include over 10 people. For groups with 10 or more participants, a 15% gratuity for our guides is added.

What if I don’t want to take a “tour”?
Given how fun it is to ride a Segway, we understand if that is just exactly what you want to do! Our guides tailor each tour to our guests’ wants and needs. If you want to hear all of the interesting facts about the area and some of it’s history, we got ’em; if you just want to ride around on an amazingly fun toy and see cool stuff, that’s what we will do!

How do I get there and where do I park?
Directions can be found on the location tab of this website.

What is a Segway Human Transporter?
A Segway Human Transporter is an electrically powered personal transportation device. Thanks to dynamic stabilization technology, which uses high-tech gyroscopes and sensors, a Segway stays balanced by responding to your body’s movements. Because of its small size, a Segway can go almost anywhere people can go.

How do I use a Segway Human Transporter?
When you step on a Segway, you will realize that it is balancing for you. It moves in response to your movements. To move forward, just lean slightly forward. To move backward, lean slightly backward. To turn left or right, simply move the Segway’s steering grip left or right. You will feel a sense of power and speed, but you will also maintain a feeling of safety and control. The Segway’s technology will keep you upright during any movement.

Is it safe to use a Segway Human Transporter?
A great deal of research has gone into ensuring the Segway will provide a safe experience when used appropriately. The Segway has also been evaluated by four independent agencies for safety. When used appropriately, a Segway will provide a safe and enjoyable ride.

This information above is based on the data provided by Segway, Inc.’s website. Please visit segway.com for more details.
