Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- First, have your group decide on dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Updated Wild Dunes 5BD only Steps from Beach- Brand NEW POOL added! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Have a fantastic stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
