Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, picking, and booking the right Charleston area rental home:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Whole House Rental Downtown Beautifully Renovated has 11 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
