Strategies to get the perfect Charleston rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the perfect vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Fly into Comfort at The Heron! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
