Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting the best vacation home in Charleston:

  • To start, have your family decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. The Cooper Suite - Just 2 Blocks King Street has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you simply love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
