Tricks and tips to get the optimal Charleston area rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking a perfect Charleston area vacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Perfect City + Beach! 10 mins to Downtown Charleston & 8 mins to Folly Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. text the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
