Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Cute & Cozy Cottage Inside Wild Dunes Resort, Short Walk to the Beach! Perfect for a Relaxing Stay! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during arrival. message the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
