Our top Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in Charleston. To get the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose the best rental home in Charleston:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Bright & Modern 2 Bedroom Monthly Rental has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you crave, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
