Search Early and Often

Like many renowned vacation spots, In Charleston area the best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months in advance is highly recommended, when possible. Many households decide to start their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve holiday gatherings.

Find your Spot and Establish Dates

Consensus can often be complicated among members of the family, but as soon as this challenging part is complete everything will begin to drop in place.

Exactly How Much Rental home Do You Need?

Take a head count. How many beds and bedrooms will you need? Try to remember that most properties advertise maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in the living room space. You will need to figure out what is acceptable for the family. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are usually available online. If not, communicate with the property owner before you reserve the home.

What Exactly Are You Willing to Pay?

Make sure that "Marsh Mellow ~ Stunning 4 bedroom Marsh View Home" suits your price range *during your desired dates*. If several individuals or relatives are sharing the cost, confirm that each group knows their obligations and has agreed to a maximum they are willing to chip in. Most rental agreements call for a single person to be responsible for the whole reservation.

Property Features

What home features is the group interested in? Do you just desire a vacation home with a swimming pool, jacuzzi or volleyball court? Are you more enthusiastic about a natural landscape or nightlife? Will the unit have bikes and beach toys available for use as part of your stay? Create a list of priority amenities to facilitate filter your search.

Accessability

Do some members of your group have specialized needs? Make certain to remember and ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment requirements..

Fido Approved

Are you or other people in the family travelling with a dog? Animal guidelines are different at each property. Study descriptions carefully. Read your contract very carefully! Fees may apply when animals are added. Ask questions *well before* you reserve!

It Is Time to Search

A number of websites exist to match renters with rental owners.. Together with Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we advise searching Google for "Charleston area local rental properties" for local property management companies. Local rental home management companies proudly offer an exceptional vacation experience.

Negotiate

When you have identified your dream rental, double check to make sure your vacation dates are available.

Some rental home owners will negotiate prices, and some will not. If they are hesitant to budge on a peak-season trip, try asking for an additional night. The off-season offers your greatest chance to make a deal for a lower rate.

Study the Contract

Read the full contract and make certain you fully understand who is responsible for:

  • Electric bills
  • WIFI Access
  • Phone service
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Cable and pay-per-view TV
  • Cleaning Fees
  • Trash Pickup (and which day?)
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Key exchange
  • Parking Fees

In addition to the regular rate, visitors have to pay state taxes when renting "Marsh Mellow ~ Stunning 4 bedroom Marsh View Home", as well as various other fees that may be mandatory based upon their circumstances, including an animal fee, early check-in or later check-out fee, or a pool heating fee for private swimming pool usage during the autumn or spring months.

Cancelling your Vacation Property

Be sure to understand the cancellation policy prior to reserving. You'll probably be offered trip insurance. Trip insurance, which ordinarily costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of your base vacation rental rate, can provide vacationers with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental home costs) for any days missed as a consequence of personal health emergencies or storms, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as a unforeseen hotel stay or additional gas.

Book It

When you believe you've identified "the one", begin the booking process. You will likely have to submit a security deposit at time of reservation.

Where to Get Help

Put the rental manager's contact information into your cell phone and wallet for easy access to answers during your trip.

Good job on booking your rental home! You're on the way to a fantastic vacation!

During your Stay

  • Photograph at your arrival. Take notes of any damage right after you arrive. If you find damages, or if fixes are required get in touch with the home manager without delay. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will probably be helpful.
  • Ask questions. Should there be any ambiguity about parking, rules of the house, property access, swimming pool operations, etc... we suggest you ask the rental home manager promptly. A phone call can save several hours of problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your nearby neighbors. Residents will likely be as friendly to you as you are considerate of them. Respecting late-night quiet hours and vehicle parking rules can make a trip a lot more pleasant.
  • Ask a local. Locals can frequently point you in the right direction.
  • Make certain to protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the home locked up when you are away, exactly like you would at home.

Leaving Paradise

  • Make sure you've packed all your belongings. Sweep all the rooms in the home for left-behind items. Check bath rooms, the garage, kitchen cabinets, porches, the pool area, and anywhere else your personal property might "hide".
  • When your things are all out, do a walk-through of the rental home to make certain no property damage occurred during your stay. We advise walking through with the rental manager wherever possible (this isn't always the case).. If the property manager is not available, you'll want to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you love your stay? Virtually all vacation rental websites ask for feedback after your stay . Rental owners and property managers will thank you for favorable reviews. If anything went wrong, we recommend being understanding but straightforward with regards to your experience. Top owners and managers will work hard to solve the issue.

Learn from your Experience

Hold a vacation recap meeting with the members of your group. Did they feel about the rental choice? If everything was wonderful, next year's trip planning is going to be relatively easy. Maybe the rental wasn't quite right, and you will better know how to refine your search for the next trip.
