How to book the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the rightrental home:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Heritage Haven: Steps to Tradition and Taste has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
