How to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the perfect rental in the Charleston area area:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Renovated 7-Bedroom Mansion Off of King Street has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
