How to get the best vacation rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Isle of Palms. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Prime Island Location! Golf Cart INCLUDED! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
